Placement & Adriva : Geometry In Distant Agriculture
Music and textures gathered from and inspired by the Azov and Black sea regions of the Russian Steppe.
Made at a distance, this collaborative album grew out of a shared enthusiasm for layered sound. Typically both Placement & Adriva generate landed, or situational pieces and on these recordings this common ground is exploited to build hybrids of stacked sonic washes, treated guitars and closely intermeshed fieldtrack.
With the subject matter settled by Adriva's intimate recordings of the local Russian Steppe. The direction of travel commonly saw Placement offering proto-tracks inspired by Google Earth's images of the region. These pieces would then go on to be interpreted, or 'grounded' by Adriva, as fieldtrack was added or combined, in a process similar to pulling focus from a wide cinematic shot...
When viewed from space, the vast symmetrical fields and underlying geological fractures of the Russian Steppe take on the appearance of a fabulously detailed patchwork quilt, or the intricacies of a plant's cells when viewed under a microscope. The impression is grand and lofty, but ultimately it's no more revealing than the murmur and touch of the human experience. Thus what is aimed at here is a combination of perspectives - a glimpsed integration of vantage points.
