Prototypes For Placement - Vale Recordings Vol.1

Although a solo album, this release is also a collaboration of sorts, as the music here was initially designed to seed future Placement tracks.

Specifically those for a project inspired by the geology and topography of '”two vales”. The vale of Avalon in Somerset, home of Placement colleague Dash Tall and the vale of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, where Giles lives. Accordingly this edition explores the latter of these home vales, evoking the landscape and more especially the underlying fabric of Aylesbury Vale in particular.

One, some or none of these pieces might eventually re-appear in Placement form, but even if they do, they will almost certainly have evolved beyond recognition. So it's been decided to release these prototypes now, to be heard in their own right.

Note: Several of the tracks on this album were initially available as individual ‘pop-up’ tracks on this site. We will leave these individual tracks up as long as we can, but encourage those already streaming them to adopt the album, as they may need to be removed for reasons of space at a later date…

My thanks as ever to my inestimable colleague Mr Dash Tall. While on the home front, Alison, The Studio Dog and numerous delivery drivers kept me out of trouble.

Also a special thank you to Martin Lowry, who provided the link that connected me with Chris Carlson’s Borderlines Granular app (instrument) for iPad. Asides from a little post-production and a field recording sample, this entire album was made using that app.
