Scale
This album was the result of two sparks combining...

The first was rediscovering an old photograph - now the album’s cover, which I’d taken while cycling in Spain. I love its variations in scale and how this lends perspective and depth to the image, with the human figure acting as a sort of scale key. Just as you might see in a landscape painting, where a figure can be yardstick, or focal point, rather than the main subject.

Meanwhile, I'd started working with Moog’s Animoog app which not only gave me new sounds, but also an inbuilt 4 track recorder. Meaning that as long as I stuck to four channels, I could quickly capture new ideas, without using the mixing desk. Discouraging any tendency to over-embellish.

All but three of the tracks were created entirely within the app. So that was that - Scale. I had both the motive and the opportunity!

The only question then was where to set the limits of scale?
I could have gone from the subatomic to the bounds of the universe, but I felt this would soon become monumentally self indulgent! So I decided to stick between human scale and the distance between the Earth and the Sun (1au). Or in other words, what the human eye (or the camera) could reasonably see in the cover picture.

This is why the tracks are named as they are (scaling up) from small to large. I’ve mixed the four levels of Spacial Scale with things that relate to, or suggest scale in of themselves. Hopefully this lends an involving and ultimately Googleable impression to the deliberately varied mass of the music.
