about

Field recordings by Elizabeth Veldon (as recorded onboard a commuter train travelling between Milngavie and Glasgow Central).
This track was originally released as a two track split between Giles Jacobs and Elizabeth Veldon entitled, 'On A Perpetual Journey You Meet Yourself Coming The Other Way'

Elizabeth's recordings were arranged to form a logical progression - door alarms, gathering motors etc, with the results suggesting a piano rhapsody of sorts - to be improvised over the top (much as one might accompany a silent film at the keyboard). Finally the electronica and guitar portions of the piece were overdubbed to highlight the directions taken in the combining - but no edits were made from the improvised thread..

lyrics

"..it was on the train, with its steely rhythms, its rattle-ty bang, that is so often so stimulating to a composer – I frequently hear music in the very heart of the noise..."
G. Gershwin
